Light blues visit to Grand Lodge

As part of his celebrations on completing 50 years in Masonry in March 2020, Assistant Provincial Grand Master David Ogden organised a trip to the Quarterly Communications meetings of United Grand Lodge in London.

The trip was open to light blues only, with a few senior members of the Wigan Group going along to help with the onsite logistics. The idea was to give those newer Masons a chance to experience the spectacle of a Grand Lodge occasion.

David provided a coach, free of charge, and 37 light blues from Wigan, Leigh, St Helens and Prescot and Warrington Groups made the journey. It was an early start, and the coach left Bryn Masonic Hall at 6am and arrived at Great Queen Street just in time for everyone to take up position on the north balcony of the lodge room to get a good view of proceedings.

It was great for the young and inexperienced Masons to witness this spectacle for the first time, and all had a very enjoyable time. Following the meeting the light blues went to see the Grand Master’s chair and had time for a quick photograph before the facilities team moved in to tidy up.

There was time for a look around the impressive building and a visit to both the museum and shop before having a spot of lunch in the city. It was a long journey home, and a long day, but a great experience for the light blues. 40 more will get another chance to experience a similar day at the March meeting when David will be putting on another trip.
